What to Expect During Acupuncture
Here is what you need to know about getting an acupuncture treatment for the first time. I will cover things to do to prepare for a treatment, what to expect during a treatment, and generally how people feel after a treatment.
Before Treatment
If it is your first treatment, please come 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork, or save time by downloading the initial forms here and complete it when it’s best for you. When you arrive in the office, it is best to be ready to relax and focus on yourself for the full session. Some tips are:
Schedule workouts and exercise before the session, and avoid physical contact sports (ex. karate) if possible
Wear loose clothing
Don’t skip meals before a session. Have a snack at least.
During Treatment
When you are in the office for your appointment, I will go over your history and what symptoms you want to address. Unique techniques to acupuncture include taking your pulse and looking at your tongue. Always communicate if anything feels uncertain, and adjustments will be made.
Once treatment begins, you will have 15-20 minutes to yourself. Relax, and take a nap (as many people do).
After Treatment
After your treatment, keep physical activity light throughout the day and let the treatment take effect. Make sure to keep hydrated and drink plenty of water. I can always be reached if there are any questions or concerns once you are out of the office.
